Small Winter Wedding at Derby Register Office
I met the couple and their immediate family at Breadsall Priory where they had been getting ready. We used the lobby, which was dressed with a beautiful Christmas tree, and the outside space to take some portraits and group shots. I then raced ahead so I was ready to greet them when they arrived at the Register Office in Derby Market Place.
The ceremony was simple and charming and I managed to subtly hold my own against a paparazzi wedding guest who, in the small registry room, was always standing where I needed to be. You’ll be pleased to hear that I emerged the victor without any insult or injury; all just part of the service.
The challenge of a winter wedding is always going to be the weather, and icy winds meant I had to make some compromises on the location of the confetti shots. But the winter does bring the bonus of Christmas lights. We were therefore able to make use of what the people of Derby had decided were somewhat controversial and underwhelming decorations for some fantastic festive bokeh backgrounds. Proving that it is worth paying for a photographer’s eye to find the beauty in any situation.
Finally we all headed over to Barton Marina where I took some relaxed and candid images of the newlyweds and their guests as they enjoyed drinks before dinner. During the evening I was paid a lovely compliment by Elainey who said that I had fitted into the small party so well that it seemed like I was one of the family. That’s the goal folks. I’m like a photography ninja…who is also your cousin.
